[CHP – Placerville]
On 3-5-18, Officer Smith was called out to the Lotus area to recover a stolen travel trailer. That travel trailer had been stolen from the Greenwood area four months ago. While he was there he also impounded two other trailers for further investigation due to a lack of identifying information on the trailers.
Officer Smith found evidence linking Jason Wayne Deane (pictured) to the theft of the travel trailer. One of the unidentified trailers was positively identified by Officer Kliebe who has special training in vehicle identification. That trailer was identified as having been stolen out of Placerville in February 2017. Identification of the other trailer is pending. During the investigation, Officer Smith was able to further link Deane to the thefts and it is believed there may be more trailers out there. A fourth trailer was also found during the investigation and is pictured.
On 3-11-18, Officer Smith was driving in the city of Placerville and saw Deane parked at a gas station. He pulled into the gas station and arrested Deane without incident for the two stolen trailers. Deane was also in possession of about half a pound of marijuana. He was booked at the El Dorado County Jail on several charges relating to the thefts. The investigation is ongoing.
If you recognize Deane and know any information about any other trailers he may be involved with or you recognize the pictured black trailers, please contact Officer Smith at the Placerville CHP office (530) 622-1110 or (916) 861-1300 (after hours).
