The Board of Trustees for El Dorado Union High School District received two suggestions for naming facilities at Ponderosa High School. The Board created an Ad Hoc Committee to review the suggestions and to come back with a recommendation.
Board policy states: “The Governing Board will not consider names which are associated with or represent values contrary to the district’s philosophy and goals.” The naming process may include recognition of the following:
1) Individuals, living or deceased, and entities that have made outstanding contributions, including financial contributions, to the school community,
2) Individuals, living or deceased, who have made contributions of statewide, national, or worldwide significance,
3) The geographic area in which the school or building is located.
The two suggestions made to the Board were:
1) Naming the Ponderosa stadium playing field (not the stadium) “Travis Hatcher Field” after former teacher, coach and Activities Director, Travis Hatcher.
2) Naming the Ponderosa Wrestling Gym “Fox Wrestling Gymnasium” after former teacher and coach, Richard Fox.
The committee would like to reach out to the community for feedback regarding these two suggestions. In addition, if there are other names you feel that should be considered for Ponderosa’s stadium playing field and wrestling gym, the committee will welcome those suggestions as well.
