[Misty Ann Tienken]
"Anthony Michael Bourdain, June 25, 1956 - June 8, 2018." This broke my heart this morning. I loved his shows.
My Grandfather raised me.
When I was 24 my Grandfather passed away. He was my rock. It was also, that same time that my family drama was at its highest and my uncle threw me out of my Grandparents home, my home. I was homeless, grieving, and completely lost. I attempted to go to classes at night, but I couldn’t focus, so I dropped out of paralegal school.
I started thinking about different ways to end my life and came close to driving my car off a cliff numerous times.
On the day of my Grandfather’s funeral, I was even more suicidal. I grabbed the phone book from my hotel room and called the suicide center in Placerville. It was then they asked me to come into the office. When I got there, the Sheriff's deputies were there and they refused to let me leave to go to the funeral. They left a message on my Grandmother’s phone, letting her know what was going on.
In the end, things with my family got worse before they got better, but they did get better. My Grandmother found her voice and told my uncle to back off. The sheriff Dept told my uncle he had zero right to legally kick me out of my home.
Why tell you all this? Suicide is never the answer. I know what it’s like to have the ground swept out from under your feet. I know what it feels like to lose everything and feel abandoned. You’re never alone and you have loved ones that care about you. If you feel you need help, please contact me. I’ve been there and I understand.
