[James Clinchard, Assistant District Attorney]

Keith Byron Wigfall, age 52 and from Mishawaki, Indiana, was convicted of Felony Transportation of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Sales.

On April 21, 2018, CHP stopped Wigfall for suspected DUI at Highway 50 and Schnell School Road.  The officer immediately noted a strong odor of marijuana but Wigfall and his passenger denied having any in the car.  While the officer began his DUI investigation, he became increasingly suspicious of Wigfall; who was acting extremely nervous.  The passenger added to his suspicion when she started to complain that she needed to pee very badly in an obvious attempt to get the officer to allow them to leave.  Undeterred, the officer searched the car and found $18,610 in cash, 7 pounds of marijuana and over 10 pounds of methamphetamine.

Wigfall was sentenced to 5 years County Prison followed by 2 years of Mandatory Community Supervision.  In addition, Wigfall forfeited the $18,610 in cash taken from the vehicle. The case was investigated by CHP with assistance from the El Dorado County Sheriff Narcotics Unit.
