"To the Community of Placerville:
Members of our community have reached out to me questioning the recent curfew order, as well as the existing public health orders. I want to clarify the position of the Placerville Police Department (which has not changed) as it relates to existing health orders and any potential impending orders at the County or State level.
The Placerville Police Department will not seek out and determine compliance with, or enforcing compliance of, any health or emergency orders related to curfews, stay at home orders, social or holiday gatherings, whether they are inside or outside the home, maximum occupancy of businesses, or mask mandates. It is our belief that your police department should continue to focus on addressing crimes of violence and working with the community to resolve quality of life issues, which keeps us very busy on a daily basis. Further, we believe that people who live, work or visit Placerville can use good judgment and common sense when it directly relates to issues of personal safety. We do ask that you have consideration for other members of our community that may have a differing position on this matter.
Specifics regarding enforcement of any COVID-related orders should be referred to the El Dorado County Department of Public Health at (530) 621-6100. We will not dispatch officers for the purposes of investigating those issues described above. It should go without saying, if there is potential criminal behavior or the potential for impacts to public safety, we will continue to respond appropriately.
It is my hope that the community continues to look out for each other, do not let these things divide us and for everyone to stay positive as we enter the holiday season.
