EL DORADO COUNTY – Emergency repairs continue on a section of State Highway 193 in El Dorado County that was damaged by a series of recent storms.
The highway between Rock Creek Road and the junction with Highway 49 in Placerville remains under 24/7 one-way traffic control with pilot vehicles as Teichert Construction continues the repairs, which include replacing sections of damaged pavement, shoulder backing and building asphalt dikes for erosion control. The use of pilot vehicles around the clock is expected to end by Monday, March 20, but daytime work will continue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. using flaggers for reversing one-way traffic control for the next two to three weeks to finish the repairs.
In addition, an approximately 300-foot section of the highway south of Chili Bar sustained extensive damage to the slope and northbound lane. A barrier wall will need to be constructed to stabilize the slope, and that work will take several months. Construction of the retaining wall is expected to start in two to three weeks. In the meantime, the area remains under signalized one-way traffic control with the northbound lane closed.
Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.
Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
