[Placerville, Calif, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, 3-19-21]

The Sheriff’s Office is honored to serve our neighbors and residents of El Dorado County.  And, we want you to know about all the different things we do here at EDSO!

Today’s employee in the “Home, Work, Play” series is Public Safety Dispatcher Mindy Whitney.  Mindy has served with EDSO for six years.

Mindy grew up and lives in El Dorado County, but she also lived in Italy and in Idaho for a short time.  Mindy has many animals to include her horses Possum and Joey, her dogs Maggie, Ben, and Angus, her two cats Karen and Susan, and her two tortoises Jack and Gibson.  (WOW, lots of critters!)

Mindy enjoys BBQing with friends and family and doing barrel racing competitions with her horses.  Mindy and her family also enjoy taking their dogs to the lake or river for short get-aways.

Mindy is currently running a dorm room for her daughter’s college experience due to COVID.  Mindy considers herself as rural, but only a Shingle Springs type of rural, not deep El Dorado County backcountry rural.

As a Communication Training Officer at EDSO, Mindy enjoys teaching and helping new dispatchers, as well as helping her community and deputies.  Mindy’s collateral assignments of Peer Support and Tactical Dispatcher bring her joy.  Mindy likes working in dispatch because everyday is different and you never know what the next phone call will bring.

Mindy describes her fellow dispatchers as being amazing and dedicated. Mindy thinks the public would be surprised by the number of monitors and computer systems a dispatcher uses to do their job.  (9 huge monitors for each dispatcher)
Growing up Mindy drove a 1987 Mazda RX7 and her favorite food is cereal, which she says is “Great for all meals”.   (We could probably all agree on that)

Mindy loves to visit anywhere there is a beach or where there is arena sand for her to ride!  Mindy described herself as being a problem child growing up, but her brother was the angel of the family.

Mindy enjoys camping, (she described it as Glamping), and she would love to go back to Italy someday.

If you ever talk to Mindy at dispatch, let her know you heard her story!

Thanks for sharing Mindy!
